YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Mercy Health, which operates St. Elizabeth Health Center and St. Joseph Warren Hospital in the Valley, is planning some staff reductions for the coming year.

Mercy Health spokeswoman Kristin Craig said the company is looking at laying off two dozen workers in the Youngstown area as it strategically evaluates its 2016 budget.

“Healthcare is changing and Mercy Health is always evaluating how best to meet our community’s needs, while serving as good stewards of our health ministry and its resources. We continue to hire in areas that will help us transform the way we deliver and pay for high-quality care, and we are scaling back in other areas,” Craig said via email on Tuesday.

She said the decision was a difficult one, and the company plans to support its employees in finding positions at other Mercy Health facilities or with other support if transfers are not an option.

Craig said the reductions will not impact patient care.
