NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. (WKBN) – Mountaineer Casino wants to host fewer horse races next year.

The Morning Journal reports that as of right now, the West Virginia track is approved for 210 races, but it only wants to run 160.

Casino officials have said that having 210 racing days means that jockeys that do win races get less money.

Officials have also cited increased competition from nearby racetrack casinos, such as Hollywood Gaming in Austintown, as a reason that they want to hold fewer races.
