YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Canfield auto dealer Joseph Reinthaler of Reinthaler Auto Village was indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury Wednesday on charges that he took vehicles in trade but refused to provide titles or pay off loans.

Reinthaler is charged with forgery and tampering with records.

The Canfield Police Department first received a complaint from a customer of Reinthaler Auto Village in January and another in March. The complaints said Reinthaler was not providing the titles for the vehicles purchased from the dealership.

Sergeant Chris Ruiz of the Canfield Police Department said the case took another turn in August when a bank contacted police. Ruiz said an investigation revealed that documents were forged to obtain a fraudulent title and in some cases Reinthaler was not providing titles at all.

Ruiz said in one case, a customer said they bought a vehicle at Reinthaler’s in 2012 and traded in their vehicle. They were told the dealership paid the loan off, but later learned the loan was not paid.
