SHARON, Pa. (WKBN) – It’s the day before Thanksgiving, and while many have turkey or driving in mind, others are thinking ahead to deals at the stores.
Nestled in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday. It’s a day where small, local shops are counting on shoppers to consider them in their holiday planning.
The City of Sharon has taken its Small Business Saturday celebration to a more festive level. Three years ago, they combined the shopping day with their Night of Lights festivities, drawing even more people to downtown.
“It is just a nice tradition in downtown, but thousands of people will be coming, It will be very fun,” said Laura Ackley, small business coordinator.
Adding in the Small Business Saturday to the mix has proven successful for Sharon. Gallery 29 co-owner Donna Bostardi said her shop counts on the sales from the event and having it on the same day as the Night of Lights is even a bigger plus.
“Small business Saturday is our biggest day of the year. It far surpasses any other days,”
Cravings has been participating in Small Business Saturday for five years. General Manager Julie Byer and said they still have people who don’t know they are downtown.
“We are hoping it will bring people who have never been down here that can shop,” Byer said.
Small Business Saturday begins in Sharon at 10 a.m.
Also part of the Night of Lights is a visit from Santa Claus, fireworks, entertainment and refreshments.
