AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – This last day before Thanksgiving has been a busy one for volunteers across the Valley as they prepare and deliver meals.
At the Austintown Senior Center, the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office has teamed up for the ninth year in a row with the agency to put together Thanksgiving dinners.
Sheriff Jerry Greene and other volunteers were busy Wednesday scooping up potatoes and green beans to go with the turkey that was provided by the Highway Tabernacle Church.
Once the meals are packaged, workers with the local Agency on Aging and others services deliver the food to their clients and others in need.
More than 325 meals were set to be delivered Wednesday to seniors around the county.
Today was also the 32nd year that Saint Michael Church in Canfield has organized the “Turkey Connection.” The congregation collects cooked turkeys, side dishes and pies, and sends the items off to local agencies.
Volunteers shipped off more than 48 turkeys Wednesday to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley, and that same amount is heading to the Saint Vincent De Paul Society on Thursday.
