Youngstown man facing sex charge involving young boy

Wilbert Patterson charged with rape to a minor

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Youngstown man has been indicted on gross sexual imposition charges by a Mahoning County grand jury.

Wilbert Patterson, Jr., 54, was arrested in September on a rape charge involving a six-year-old boy. Campbell police said the sexual contact was reported by the alleged victim’s grandmother.

The boy reportedly told his grandmother that Patterson pulled him away from the playground and into his home, where the alleged assault occurred.

Police said Patterson first denied the allegations but later admitted to raping the boy.

A relative of Patterson told police that Patterson has a mental disability, according to a Campbell Police report. Police said he was taking several medications.

Patterson has remained in Mahoning County Jail since September 6, awaiting a court appearance.
