AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – 6,100 families had their Thanksgiving soured by power outages in Austintown, Youngstown, Boardman and Canfield, according to FirstEnergy. The outage was centered in the Cornersburg area.
FirstEnergy spokesman Mark Durbin said that a blown fuse caused the outage around 3:45 p.m. Much of the power was restored around 9 p.m., but about 160 customers were still out around midnight.
A neighbor in the area told a WKBN reporter that they heard an explosion and saw smoke near their home at the time of the outage.
Several people told WKBN on Facebook that there had been a number of outages recently in the area. Durbin said he did not know if that was true and was not able to check due to being out of the office for Thanksgiving.
