Burned body found in Youngstown

A burned body was found on the north side of Youngstown, Ohio.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Youngstown Police are investigating a homicide after they found a charred body Thursday on the city’s east side.

A witness in the area of Wardle Avenue and Liberty Road saw a fire about 1 a.m. in the woods just off the road. When he went to check it out, he discovered the body and called police.

“We don’t know if he was shot or what, but there was blood on the side of the street, and he was dragged over into the woods and someone ignited him,” Sgt. Daryl Martin said.

The body was too badly burned to make a positive identification. The Mahoning County Coroner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

The victim is described as a thin, black man, 6’ tall, in his early 20s. He was wearing blue jeans with a riveted black belt, white shirt and gold, wood trimmed glasses.

Anyone with information is asked to call Youngstown Police at 330-747-7911.
