Hermitage, PA (WKBN) – It all came down to 4th and goal from the 1 for Sharpsville in overtime, and Farrell came up with the stop to win, 26-20, and capture the Class A District 10 Championship Saturday at Hickory High School.
The Steelers took an early lead in the first quarter on a one yard touchdown run by QB Alex Myers. A failed 2 point conversion made it 6-0 Farrell. On their next drive, the Steelers scored again on a 66 yard pass from Myers to Kyi Wright, to extend their lead to 12-0.
But Sharpsville would counter on 3rd and goal with a 21 yard touchdown pass from Luke Henwood to Tyrin Peavy to make it a 12-7 game at halfime. The Blue Devils came out hot in the second half, scoring touchdowns on their first two offensive plays of the 3rd quarter. First, Peavy took a handoff 75 yards for a score, and Bobby Besser ran in a 33 yard touchdown of his own.
Neither team would score again until Farrell punched in a 2 yard touchdown from Alex Myers, along with a two point conversion catch from Malachi Newell to force overtime.
In the extra session, Farrell scored first on a 10 yard pass by Myers to make it 26-0. Sharpsville drove down to the one yard line but was stopped on 4th and goal to secure the victory for the Steelers.
