2015-16 Beaver Local Beavers’ Boys Basketball Preview

Season in Review
Beaver Local won a total of 16 games over a five-year stretch, an average of 3 wins a year, between 2007 and 2012. The Beavers have notched double-digit win seasons in each of the past three campaigns.

Leading the Beavers had been the play of Chase Hilliard, who led the team last year with a 17.6 scoring average and with a 9.5 rebounding average to boot. Hilliard scored 718 points over the past two seasons. Hayden Grafton finished second in scoring (12.2) and rebounding (4.3) last winter.

For the first time in eleven years, the Beavers registered a post-season victory over Philo (52-48) before falling in the Division II Zanesville Sectional Final to Morgan by six-points (62-56).

Key Returnees
Despite the loss of a handful of standout players at Beaver Local, the cupboard is not bare. Chase Wilcox returns for his junior season after seeing his production climb from a 2.1 scoring average (0.2 apg) as a freshman to a 7.4 scoring average (1.6 apg) as a sophomore. Wilcox also displayed a knack for scoring from long distance as he led the team with 29 makes from three-point range (30.5%). Nathan Kline led the team in three-point percentage as a sophomore with a 33.3% clip (17-51). Kline produced a 4.5 average scoring per game while handing out 1.5 assists. Bryce McKenzie is also back after averaging 3.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 2014-15.

…Beaver Local posted a playoff win last season. The last time the Beavers had notched a playoff victory was in the 2004 Division II Steubenville Sectional Final over Carrollton (68-61) in overtime.
