HERMITAGE, Pa (WKBN) – A Hermitage man is dead in an early morning shooting on Tuesday, and police have begun developing leads in the murder case.
Hermitage police say 56-year-old Ralph Lloyd, of Grove Street in Hermitage, was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown at 4:30 a.m. He had been taken there from Sharon Regional Health System.
Officers found Lloyd lying near the intersection of North Water Avenue and Marshall Avenue at just after 1 a.m. with gunshot wounds.
Hermitage Police Chief Brian Blair said a neighbor called 911 to report hearing an argument outside and possible gunshots.
“Someone heard a commotion, a disturbance, an argument in the area of North Water Avenue and Marshall,” Blair said.
Blair said, although Lloyd was found near the front yard of a home in that neighborhood, it is believed that he was shot outside.
“The home that he was near, he wasn’t associated with that residence,” he said. “We don’t know, at this point, if he was a pedestrian or if he had been in a car and something happened outside of the car.”
Blair said Lloyd lived on Grove Street, but he does not drive or own a car.
“He may have been with somebody else,” he said.
Investigators found some evidence on the scene, which they would not disclose.
Hermitage police investigated a homicide-suicide earlier this year. Lloyd’s death is the first murder of 2015 for the department.
The previous murder investigation was in April 2014 when Lashara Wilder stabbed Eric Williams to death with a steak knife, during a fight over a cell phone.Wilder was sentenced to nine to 18 years in prison.
