YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Volunteers are serving bagged lunches again Thursday afternoon outside the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Youngstown after the shelter closed down unexpectedly earlier this week.

An unidentified donor is providing the bagged lunch meals, and now space heaters and tents are being passed out as well. Volunteers plan to continue providing the lunches until Monday. That is when the dining hall is expected to reopen, Mahoning County St. Vincent DePaul Society President Brian Antal told WKBN exclusively Wednesday.

“There is a businessman in Youngstown that told us that he will support our project here with feeding the less fortunate, and we’re gonna keep on going forward with that,” said volunteer Allen Wasylychyn.

The dining hall closed Monday after an unspecified personnel issue. Volunteers say they all left after a dispute with Antal.

The society has since hired a new kitchen manager, Wayne Murray.

Antal talked exclusively with WKBN about that personnel issue, saying, “You have to have rules, and not everybody likes rules, but no matter where we work, you got your rules at work…and we have to follow them.”
