GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – A boil advisory will remain in effect for all City of Girard Water customers through Friday, according to the Girard Police Department.
The boil advisory went into effect Saturday after a water main break on Tibbetts Wick Road in Girard, leaving about 4,000 customers without water for the entire day.
People affected should boil their water before consuming it until further notice.
Girard Director of Public Services Jerry Lambert said 14 feet of the pipe had to be replaced, requiring the road closure of Tibbetts Wick Road on Saturday.
The water main break happened in front of Theresa Howard’s house. She had been using water she already had to get through the day.
“I haven’t done any laundry yet and haven’t showered yet,” Howard said on Saturday. “So it’s a little frustrating.”
Dale Cole also lives on Tibbetts Wick Road by the break. He woke up at 4:30 to feed his puppies, who didn’t have anything to drink.
“I got a 92-year-old grandmother living downstairs. She can’t bathe, we can’t bathe. My wife’s got to go to work. She has to go to my uncle’s house to take a shower,” Cole said.
Neighbors say they’ve been left in the dark all day about what was going on.
“Nobody’s actually told us anything. Nobody,” Howard said.
“Maybe I didn’t pay the water bill,” Cole said. “I was thinking maybe something froze in my house.”
Officials say they do not know what caused the water main break and are not sure how big the break is. That leaves neighbors with questions.
This is the first time they’ve had to deal with this problem, but it’s one that they say caused a huge inconvenience.
