HANOVER, Pa. (AP) – A Facebook group has donated money to keep a popular eagle cam rolling in Pennsylvania after a budget crisis threatened its installation.
The game commission installed a camera last year overlooking the nest of two bald eagles in York County. About 1.5 million people tuned in to watch the birds hatch and raise two eaglets.
The Morning Call reports the Hanover, PA Eagle Cam Facebook group heard the lack of state budget might keep the camera dark this year. Individuals from the group donated to the Friends of Codorus State Park nonprofit to prevent that.
State park manager Warren Werntz says the nonprofit contributed a total of $2,400. Workers installed cameras above the eagle’s nest on Nov. 30. The stream could go live as soon as this week.
