East Liverpool coach resigns amidst police report, rumors

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – The East Liverpool Board of Education has accepted the resignation of a wrestling coach after a police report was filed, alleging a relationship with a former student.

The Morning Journal reports that assistant varsity coach Gary Ice, 47, submitted his resignation by email to the district’s athletic director. The high school principal has turned over the information he has to Children’s Services.

The uncle of a 16-year-old Maryland girl filed a report with East Liverpool police on Nov. 25, claiming Ice had picked up the girl in Maryland and driven her back to East Liverpool. Prosecutors advised police there would not be criminal charges based on that incident alone.

But that teen is a former student in the East Liverpool district. The newspaper reports that school administrators received “strong rumors” by email of a relationship between the two.
