Former Niles tax investigator gets out of jail early

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – A woman convicted of stealing hundreds of dollars from the city of Niles is getting out of jail early.

Heidi Powell was granted early release Wednesday morning. Powell is the former tax investigator for Niles.

She was sentenced back in July for stealing more than $700 from the tax office.

Powell will serve the rest of her sentence on community control for about six months.

She’ll also have to pay back the money she stole, as well as court costs, and take drug tests.
