Icy roads lead to numerous crashes in western PA

MERCER, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – Icy roads in Mercer and Lawrence Counties contributed to at least a dozen traffic accidents Wednesday morning.

Early reports indicated a number of slide-off crashes. One vehicle reportedly hit a house in the area of 1100 Greenville Mercer Road.

The accident occurred at 7:02 a.m., and the house had moderate damage to several support beams holding up the roof on the front porch. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

No one was injured in that crash, according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police.

Pennsylvania State Police at Mercer said they had handled seven or eight ice-related crashes as of 8 a.m. They said there were crashes all around the county.

The New Castle post of the state police reported four ice-related crashes as of 8:15 a.m. A dispatcher said those crashes were mainly in the central part of the county.
