COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)– Pets can come into our lives and change things forever. For one Ohio dog with only a few months to live, her family is honoring her by creating a bucket list before she passes.
Leya is a 6-month-old cattle dog that makes a lasting impression on anyone she meets. She is also completely blind and suffering from a rare heart condition called juvenile dilated cardiomyopathy.
“She’s an amazing dog. She’s a happy dog. She’s well rounded; well socialized. She loves everyone,” said Victoria Corbett, who runs the rescue organization Speak For The Unspoken, which helps special needs animals.
Leya’s condition means she only has a few months to live, so Corbett is making sure the rest of Leya’s life is awesome by creating her a bucket list.
Corbett reads from the list, “Going to the beach, eating a gourmet meal, riding in a convertible, visiting a nursing home…”
Eventually, Corbett wants to cross off all 50 items on Leya’s bucket list, and hopes it teaches others how precious life is.
“You could lose your animal, your family member, anyone in your life in a second,” she said.
The slogan “Live Like Leya” was created to encourage people to make the most of every single day, and you can follow Leya’s progress on the Facebook page they’ve created for her. They are also encouraging people to take pictures with their pets and tag them using #LiveLikeLeya.
