YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – About a dozen budding artists from Youngstown will have some of their work featured for the next year in a new calendar.
Directors with Green Youngstown, the city’s litter control and recycling office, held a luncheon Friday afternoon to recognize the local students whose entries were chosen for the agency’s 2016 calendar promoting recycling.
The selections were chosen out of over 300 drawings, paintings and other designs from kids in nearly every school in the city.
“We get submissions from Youngstown school children in private, in public, in charter, anybody and everybody,” said Jennifer Jones of Green Youngstown. “If you’re a student in the city of Youngstown, we try to get artwork…we choose a number of winners.”
Each of the thirteen winners was given a certificate and Walmart gift cards, just in time for holiday shopping.
They were also given free passes to the upcoming “First Night Youngstown” celebration on New Year’s Eve, where all of the winning entries will be on display for the public.
