Myers to McCoy; Farrell moves onto Hershey

Farrell scored the game's final 14 points in the final three minutes to secure the Western Final victory.

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – In miraculous fashion, Farrell’s Marcus McCoy caught a 76-yard touchdown pass from Alex Myers with 44 seconds to go to defeat Berlin Brothersvalley – 26-21 – to advance to their first state championship game since 1996. The Steelers were trailing by 9 points with just over four minutes remaining. Farrell stormed back to score the game’s final 14 points.

Miscues and big defensive stands were the outcomes of many Farrell first half drives which ended deep in Berlin territory as the Steelers entered the intermission with a 6-0 lead. Alex Myers amassed over 175 yards of total yards (passing/rushing) in the opening twenty-four minutes. Myers scored from a yard out to give Farrell the advantage.

To begin the second half, the Mountaineers’ Braden Fochtman went over 2,000-yards for the season and scored the game-tying touchdown early in the third quarter. Carter Raupach’s kick went through the uprights to give Berlin the lead (7-6).

Farrell struck back as Alex Myers dodged defenders and tallied 32 yards which brought the Steelers into Berlin’s side of the field. DeVaughn Green scampered 12 yards to pay dirt as Farrell took a 5-point lead (12-7).

On the ensuing drive, Berlin’s Cole Booth caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Brentson Harding to take the lead back early in the fourth quarter (14-12). The Mountaineers held onto the ball for close to seven minutes as they finished a 14-play drive with six points. The touchdown connection was Harding’s 25th of the season and his 13th to Booth.

Farrell’s next possession ended in a turnover as Berlin set up shop at the Steelers’ 18-yard line halfway through the final frame. Fochtman scored his second touchdown of the game (34th on the season) and with Raupach’s third extra point – the Mountaineers’ took a 21-12 lead with just over four minutes remaining.

Less than two minutes later, Myers completed a 28-yard strike to Green to close the gap to 21-18 late in the fourth quarter. Then, Myers hooked up with McCoy on the 76-yard touchdown strike with 44 seconds to go.

Next Friday, Farrell (14-1) will meet the defending Class A champion Bishop Guilfoyle (15-0) – who ended Old Forge’s season tonight (43-13) – at HersheyPark Stadium. The Marauders have won 31 games in a row now.
