Salem selects new fire chief

Scott Mason is the new Salem Fire Cheif.

SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) – City officials in Salem selected a new fire chief.

Captain Scott Mason scored the highest on the chief’s exam and will succeed Chief Jeff Hughes, who is retiring in January.

Mason joined the department in 2002 and has been a captain since 2008. He said he is looking forward to working with the mayor and city council.

“After years of being the captain I am looking forward to coming in and working with the city and providing a quality service for the citizens,” Mason said. “I just want to get in there and get my feet wet.

Mason will oversee a department of 15 firefighters.
