Warm temperatures break records, send people outdoors

Golfers hit the greens at Mill Creek Golf Course in Boardman, despite entering into winter season.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – It’s a weekend to take a walk in Mill Creek Park, clean up the yard, or play another round of golf.

Record high temperatures across the region are bringing people outside on Saturday and Sunday, a rarity for mid-December.

The National Weather Service says the temperature record for Dec. 13 was broken during the early morning hours at the Youngstown Warren Regional Airport. The temp at 1 a.m. Sunday was 61 degrees. The old record was 60, set on the same date in 1991.

The Akron Canton Airport also broke their record for Dec. 13. The temperature was 62 at 1 a.m.; the old record was 60.

The high at the Regional Airport Saturday was 67 degrees. That shattered the old record high of 60 degrees set on Dec. 12, 1949.

Cleveland Hopkins Airport reached 70 degrees Saturday for a new record there. Records were also broken Saturday at Akron-Canton, Erie and Mansfield.

The 27 Storm Team predicts even warmer weather through the day on  Sunday.
