WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Congressman Tim Ryan, D-Ohio, visited students at William Holmes McGuffey Elementary School in Warren on Monday.
Ryan spoke to the children about accountability and solving conflict. He also watched a program called “Skills for Life,” which teaches peer mediation.
Ryan said programs that help children mediate conflicts create better students.
“If you don’t have the ability to regulate emotions, the ability to solve conflict, to have mental discipline, you can’t learn,” he said.
Ryan also said he believes “Skills For Life” creates safer neighborhoods by giving children the ability to resolve situations that may lead to violence.
