FARRELL, Pennsylvania (WKBN) – It’s been 19 years since Farrell has won a State Championship in football. For their opponent this Friday night, it’s been 12 months.
Bishop Guilfoyle is the defending state champion in Class A…and currently sit just one win away from a second straight undefeated season. The Marauders have won 31 games in a row… and their average margin of victory this season is 40 points per game. It is a daunting task to say the least for Farrell… but one they will not shy away from this Friday afternoon.
“My guys know my desire and my eagerness to get there,” Head Coach Jarrett Samuels said. “I’m the same competitor when i was 17 or 18 years old….as a coach now being 43 years old. So, i want this bad. I want this bad for them also. I want them to enjoy the moment. But again, we want to put another banner up on the wall at Farrell High School.”
Quarterback Alex Myers tossed the winning touchdown pass in the victory over Berlin Brothersvalley. He remains confident heading into the season finale.
“We’ve just got to go out there and dominate them on both sides of the ball,” he said. “Special teams too, ya know, make big plays. I believe that’s what we’re gonna do this Friday afternoon.”
Fellow Senior Malachi Newell is well aware of the challenges the Steelers will face in the championship game.
“They have size, speed…they have everything that a championship team should have,” Newll said. “At any moment, anybody could lose. So, we just want to go out there, and play fast, physical, and just play Farrell football.”
Friday’s kickoff is set for 1PM in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
