LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) – Michael Shope sank two free throws to clinch Wellsville’s 65-63 win over Beaver Local in overtime. Shope sent the game to overtime by sinking a free throw just prior to the end of regulation to make the score 58-58.
Number 23 (Shope) led all scorers with 21 points (5 rebounds, 4 steals). Justin Miller nearly posted a double-double for Wellsville (17 points, 9 rebounds).
The Beavers’ Nathan Kline connected on 4 three-point shots en route to a 20-point night. Chase Wilcox tallied 12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. Beaver Local turned the ball over 24 times compared to just 13 by the Tigers. The Beavers third loss in a row drops them to 1-3.
Wellsville’s only hiccup was a 32-point loss (69-37) to Lisbon last Friday. The Tigers have won five of their first six contests this season.
Next up for Wellsville (5-1) is another road game against Leetonia on Friday. The Beavers will travel to Edison on Friday.
