YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley will launch a new feeding site located in downtown Youngstown, according to a press release sent Wednesday.

The release states that the kitchen, which will be located at 551 Mahoning Avenue, is expected to open in the second quarter of 2016. According to Second Harvest Food Bank executive Director Mike Iberis, a philanthropic family in the Mahoning Valley, which has chosen to remain anonymous, will provide funding necessary to build and maintain the soup kitchen.

Skip Barone, former kitchen manager at the Mahoning Valley St. Vincent de Paul Society, said that the family that is financing this operation is the same one that provided money for volunteers to pass out lunches downtown when St. Vincent de Paul closed for a week in early December.

Barone will head the new facility, to be called “Skip’s Cafe.”
