YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A Youngstown woman who is terminally ill is receiving a dream come true Wednesday, thanks to a woman who is also fighting for her life.

Darlene Fitzgerald has been all smiles Wednesday as she and her daughters are pampered from head to toe at the New Dawn Salon and Day Spa in Hubbard.

Darlene recently learned she has Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a type of cancer that affects white blood cells.

When volunteers at the Drop in The Bucket Foundation learned of her condition, they wanted her to be the recipient of their first donation.

The foundation was created in July by Mahoning Valley native Diana Johnson, who has a terminal immune deficiency disease and wanted to help others in similar circumstances.

After her spa day, Darlene and her daugthers will take a limo ride to JCPenney’s for a shopping spree, then off to dinner at the Fifth Floor Restaurant.
