BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – A group of people are now hearing a little more clearly, thanks to a special gift from a local doctor on Friday.
Hearing aids were given out to 35 people who otherwise would not be able to afford the devices. They were distributed by Dr. Sheryl Figliano, president and owner of the Centers for Hearing Care in Boardman.
Figliano is the co-founder of the Hearing Missions Foundation, a non-profit, volunteer organization that helps those in financial crisis with hearing care.
“I think it’s marvelous,” said hearing aid recipient Barbara Starkey. “I saw the prices they were supposed to be, and it is just out of my reach. I’m on social security, and I don’t have that kind of money.”
Chick-fil-A also provided lunch for everyone, and Boardman Township Trustees issued a proclamation designating December 18 as “Hearing Missions Day.”
