BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Despite this weekend being the last shopping weekend before Christmas, the Southern Park Mall wasn’t too hectic on Friday evening.
Boardman Police Sgt. Darrell Wagner said traffic continued to move along State Route 224 in front of the mall.
“It’s really not too bad,” he said. “It’s pretty much business as usual for us. It’s always more congested during the holidays.”
And though there was some congestion around the mall, traffic was not bad at all at the Shops at Boardman Park, a mile east from the mall.
“I got here from Hubbard in about 20 minutes. It was pretty crazy that I got here that fast. I was expecting mad traffic, but it was pretty easy going,” said shopper Chuck Kettering.
Inside Kohl’s, it wasn’t too crowded. People were checking out the jewelry counter, sifting through the racks, and it was steady at the check-out counters, but there were no long lines. The store will now be open 24 hours through 6 p.m. Christmas Eve.
Thais Davidson, manager of the Boardman Kohl’s store, said the hours are convenient for many people who can’t get to the mall during normal business hours.
“What we get is a lot of people who work the afternoon shift or the late shift, get off 11-12 o’clock, and they come in and they can get the great customer service, even overnight, and get all their shopping done, and their kids are at home. So, it’s very convenient for a lot of people,” Davidson said.
