WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Just a few days ago, the Warren Family Mission was in desperate need of toys for the nearly 1,200 children that registered for its toy drive, which ends Saturday. Thanks to the generous support of the community, organizers say they’ll be able to pull if off.
Cheryl Parsons, director of public relations at the Warren Family Mission, said the agency has reached 90 percent of its toy collection goal. Just three days ago, it had about 30 percent of the toys it needed.
“The community is just overwhelmingly supporting us,” she said.
One of those supporters is Caleena Arbogast, who collects for the Warren Family Mission each year at her store, Caleena and Co. in Warren. She said this year’s collection exceeded her expectations.
“We thought one or two items, but they came in with bags full,” she said.
More than 300 people showed up with coats, clothes, blankets, toys and money — all to help an organization in desperate need this year.
“We have the best customers,” she said. “Just that they, they cared this much to come in on just one day, and bring this much, and show this much love and support to our community.”
And to top it all off is a check from Arbogast and her customers, too. It’s an added boost to help the Mission keep helping those in need.
Parsons said it is remarkable how things seem to work out, calling it a blessing.
“I just want to thank the community. I mean, they have come out in full force this year, and I just cannot thank them enough,” she said.
