Pets in Girard will be well-fed this holiday season

Legacy Dog Rescue held a pet food drive in Girard.

GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – Not only is there a need for food and toy assistance this time of year, but there’s also a need to feed family pets.

Legacy Dog Rescue held its annual Dog and Cat Food Giveaway in Girard on Saturday.

Legacy handed out 6,000 pounds of pet food in the parking lot of the Family Video. Over 100 people began waiting in line an hour before the distribution was scheduled to begin.

“A lot of times, the animals get overlooked, and they are part of the family too,” Blase Brush said. “This way, the money can go somewhere else to help somebody else in their family, and help with the short-term…Assistance to help them get through this time of year.”

Brush says the most important thing is to spay or neuter your pet to help control the overpopulation problem.
