WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Earlier this week, it didn’t look like the Warren Family Mission would be able to provide a very Merry Christmas for families in need. Cheryl Parsons, director of public relations, says that just four days ago, they had hardly anything.
That is, until WKBN viewers came together to help the organization meet and exceed its goal.
“The door started becoming a revolving door,” Parsons said.
On Saturday, you could see the results: tables overflowing with presents, donated by people who felt the holiday spirit. Even Toys for Tots stepped up to give to the Mission for the first time, along with a Boston radio station.
“We’re just blessed because they came together and helped the people that need help,” Parsons said.
The entire afternoon, the Warren Family Mission was as busy as any department store. One thousand people came through, meaning 3,000 kids will receive toys this Christmas. The organization exceeded its goal and was able to provide each child with four toys and five stocking stuffers.
“A lot of people say that there are a lot of negative things that happen here in Warren,” said Kiisha Sanders, executive director of Team Sanders Inc., an after-school program in Warren. “But when you put that need out there and you let people know we’re just trying to help the community, we’ve received an overwhelming response.”
“I feel God answered our prayers and we can’t thank Channel 27 and 33 enough for helping us do that,” Parsons said.
