YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A boxer’s first professional bout turned tragic Saturday night during a fight at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Banquet Center.
Anthony Taylor, of Warren, was in the ring with Hamzah Ajahmi, of Detroit. As the bell went off in the final round, Ajahmi fell to his knees, and Taylor was declared the winner by majority decision.
It was soon realized, however, that Ajahmi was seriously injured.
He was carried out of the ring by paramedics and taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he had emergency surgery. The hospital was not releasing information on his condition on Monday.
