BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – People around the Valley are packing into grocery stores, picking up those last few things for Christmas dinner.
One of the most-crowded stores on Thursday morning was LaRiccia’s Italian Marketplace, where some people got there more than an hour before it even opened to get their seafood.
“It’s a really cool tradition. Word of mouth spreads. We see the same people every year, but every year, it grows a little more,” said employee Kevin Holden.
More than 70 people lined up outside the Boardman store on Thursday morning. Outside the store, Santa and Mrs. Claus greeted people with pizzelles.
“Probably over 400 or 500 people coming through to get fish, pick up orders,” Holden said. “We actually had to stop taking orders early this year, because we were just overbooked.”
LaRiccia’s is open until 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve, if you haven’t picked up your Christmas meal yet.
