Niles police shut down shoplifting ring

NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – A large shoplifting ring was shut down, thanks to alert shoppers and the Niles Police Department.

Shoppers at the Eastwood Mall Complex contacted Niles police about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday after witnesses saw three women stealing more than $700 worth of jackets from Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Angelic N. Brown, 40, of Cleveland, was charged with theft, possession of criminal tools and receiving stolen property for theft at the Eastwood Mall.

The suspects took off in a black Nissan SUV. One of the witnesses followed the vehicle and called police.

The SUV suddenly stopped in the mall parking lot, and the occupants got out and ran away, discarding the jacket as they ran.

Officers were able to catch two of the suspects.

Inventory of items stolen in a Niles, Ohio theft ring.An inventory of the vehicle uncovered $10,000 in stolen items. The vehicle was packed from the floor to the roof with bags of stolen merchandise, according to police.

Angelic N. Brown, 40, of Cleveland, and Angela Falkner, 41, of Bedford Heights, were charged with theft. Brown is additionally charged with receiving stolen property and possession criminal tools.

Brown was arraigned on Wednesday. Bond was set at $5,000, and she was released from jail. She is scheduled to be back in Niles Municipal Court on December 30.

Falkner is scheduled to be arraigned at 8:45 a.m. December 29 on the petty theft charge.
