St. Lucy’s in Campbell reopens for Christmas Eve mass

Mass is held at St. Lucy's in Campbell and St. Pat's in Youngstown.

CAMPBELL, Ohio (WKBN) – Christmas Eve masses are being held in churches throughout the Valley Thursday night, including some in Campbell and Youngstown.

St. Lucy’s in Campbell reopened just for the Christmas Eve mass, but remains closed in general. The parish has been petitioning for the Catholic church to be reopened.

In Youngstown, St. Patrick’s also held mass, with Bishop George Murry leading the service. His homily talked about the importance of knowing and celebrating Christmas as the birth of Christ.

“Christmas is all about the coming of the world’s true king,” he said. “The one who stops wars, who forgives debts, who establishes true justice and judgment on earth.”

In the Pope’s Christmas Eve homily, Francis talked about the joy of Jesus’s birth and spoke against society’s love of pleasure and wealth.
