Truck hits horse-drawn buggy in Ohio; 2 women seriously hurt

WILLIAMSFIELD, Ohio (AP) – The State Highway Patrol says a pickup truck rear-ended a horse-drawn buggy in far northeast Ohio, throwing two women from the buggy and leaving one of them with life-threatening injuries.

WKYC-TV in Cleveland reports both women were taken to a hospital after the crash Wednesday night in Ashtabula County’s Williamsfield Township. A 68-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries, and a 44-year-old companion was less seriously hurt.

The 51-year-old Williamsfield man driving the truck wasn’t injured.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the collision, though authorities indicated alcohol doesn’t appear to be a factor.
