Youngstown PD: Baby taken into custody after gun battle

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Mahoning County Children Services took custody of an 8-month-old baby girl on Christmas Day, after police say her mother brought her along for a gun battle and car chase.

Officers responded to a call from a woman around 1:00 Christmas morning. She said she was at the Shell gas station on Market St., when a vehicle drove past and its occupants started shooting at her from the sunroof.

Police say that vehicle was driven by the baby’s mother, Jalisha Wylie.

The woman told police that she followed the vehicle, and the passengers continued firing. She followed them down Market St. and Florida Ave. until police stopped it at E. Avondale Ave. and Gibson St.

Police arrested Wylie, 18, of Girard and charged her with child endangerment.

Anthony Stigal, 19, and Vashuad May, 13, both of Youngstown, are charged with felonious assault.

YPD also recovered two guns from the car.
