Austintown crash involving pedestrian sends one to hospital

An accident on the border of Youngstown and Austintown sent at least two people to the hospital. The crash happened around 9 p.m. Monday on Meridian Road near Leharps Road.

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – An accident on the border of Youngstown and Austintown sent a pedestrian to the hospital on Monday night.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on Meridian Road near Leharps Road.

Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating. Highway Patrol says a 2004 Buick Rendezvous was traveling southbound on Meridian Road when it struck a pedestrian standing in the southbound lanes.

The driver of the Buick was identified as 29-year-old Cachet Murray, of Austintown. Murray and a passenger in the vehicle were uninjured, according to Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Health Center for his injuries. His name and condition are unknown at this time.

The Austintown Police and Fire departments assisted with traffic control while the scene was cleared.

Correction: An earlier story indicated that two people were sent to the hospital. Ohio State Highway Patrol says only one person was transferred.
