Boardman Police search for reported Southern Park Mall thief

BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Police were searching for a suspect who was described as “looking like Shaggy from Scooby Doo” after an attempted theft from JCPenney in the Southern Park Mall.

An employee of JCPenney called police at 1 p.m. December 24 to report that a man tried to steal Nike women’s apparel, valued at $305.

The items were recovered when the man was confronted. He ran toward Jared — Galleria of Jewelry through the parking lot and was unable to be found by police.

The man was described as an approximately 22-year-old white male, wearing a gray sweat suit, black hat and bright blue shoes, with a striking similarity to the Shaggy character from the “Scooby Doo” cartoon television series, according to a Boardman Police report.

He may have left the mall parking lot in a dark colored SUV, according to police. It is unknown whether the man has been identified at this time.
