YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – Changes are coming to the 16th annual First Night Youngstown New Year’s Eve celebration.

Among the changes and additions, there will be a stage on Central Square, where musical groups will play throughout the night. This is the first year for the stage, according to First Night coordinator Betsy Johnquest.

She says those watching the entertainment on the stage will also have the perfect view of the fireworks, which will be launched from the Market Street Bridge, instead of the Covelli Centre parking lot as in previous years.

“It makes the fireworks higher, so if you’re on Federal Street at the bars and stuff, even at the B&O [Station], you can just look outside and you will have a great view of the fireworks,” Johnquest said.

The bridge will be closed at noon on New Year’s Eve in preparation.

The move will clear up more parking spaces for visitors, Johnquest said.

Also, food options will be available at Federal Street and Wick Avenue restaurants, instead of street-side vendors. Organizers hope that the change will spur new business to area restaurants.

The celebration begins at 4 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and ends at 12:30 a.m. To join the fun you must purchase a First Night Youngstown button for $10.
