Anonymous donor mails $10K to police department

WEST HAZLETON, Pa. (AP) – A northeastern Pennsylvania police department is in the money, thanks to one anonymous donor.

West Hazleton mayor Frank Schmidt tells WNEP-TV he received a check for $10,000 in the mail Monday.

He says it came with a note saying it was for the West Hazleton police department. It ended with the line “God bless both of you.”

It’s not the first time someone has helped out the borough’s police department.

Years ago an anonymous donor gave them a police cruiser and some weapons.

West Hazleton Police Chief Brian Buglio says the money can go far for his department.

He says some officers need bulletproof vests and a few squad cars need computers. The department will soon need new weapons

The chief says he’s grateful for the late Christmas gift.
