Two-car crash kills one in Austintown, Ohio

AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – The Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on New Rd. in Austintown Township at 6:15 p.m. Thursday.

A Toyota Avalon and a Kia Sorento collided at the west end of the New Road bridge over Route 11.

The right rear passenger in the Toyota, Geraldine Beene, 83, of Austintown was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota and his wife were taken to St Elizabeth Medical Center in Youngstown with non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers say the Kia, driven by Richard Hunter, 58, of Austintown, went left of center, striking the Toyota. Hunter was not injured in the crash.

Investigators are trying to figure out if icy conditions and speed led to the crash.

Seatbelts were worn by all occupants. The patrol continues investigating.
