Celebrating Orthodox Christmas in Mahoning Valley

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – While the trees and holiday decorations are already put away for many of us, some of us are celebrating Christmas on Thursday.

A holiday service was underway Thursday morning at Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church on Laird Ave. on the west side of Youngstown.

The difference in the dates goes back several centuries to the Julian Calendar, which was created under the rule of Julius Caesar.

Serbians have not adopted the Gregorian calendar date of Dec. 25 as the Christmas holiday.
