East Liverpool man pleads guilty to theft at Columbiana church

LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) — An East Liverpool man who stole money from a Columbiana church pleaded guilty to theft in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court on Thursday, the Morning Journal reports.

Between Jan. 1, 2012 and July 31, 2014, William McGraw, 41, reportedly stole more than $7,500 from the Columbiana First United Methodist Church.

Police in Columbiana said they were first called by leaders with the First United Methodist Church on South Main Street last August, where McGraw had served as both treasurer and music director. Investigators said church leaders became suspicious after learning items were being purchased without anyone’s knowledge.

McGraw faces up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine. He will be sentenced on the charge on April 1.

There is also a pending civil case in relation to the theft that hasn’t yet been settled.
