ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) – An inmate who escaped from a state correctional facility in Elyria, Ohio has turned himself in.

The 29-year-old inmate escaped from the Lorain/Medina Community Based Correctional Facility in Elyria just after 9 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities said the inmate was sent to the facility on a fourth-degree felony count of trafficking in heroin.

Deputies said the inmate crawled out of a window of his room at the facility after smashing the glass with a padlock.

Capt. Jim Drozdowski says family members and a bail bondsman accompanied the man to the sheriff’s office Wednesday afternoon. He faces additional charges of escape and vandalism.

Drozdowski says the man has been booked into the Lorain County Jail and is due back in court Thursday or Friday.
