Projecting Boys’ Hoops Tourney: Alliance District (1/7)

ALLIANCE, Ohio (WKBN) – We are one month away from the OHSAA’s Selection Sunday for boys’ basketball. Teams are currently vying for seeding in next month’s district tournament. Here’s a look at the Alliance District.

Selection Meeting: Sunday, February 7

Division I – Alliance District
Projected Seeding as of January 6
(1)Harding (7-1)
-Harding got by Poland (62-59) on Tuesday to rack up another quality win. So far, the Raiders have defeated Boardman, Fitch, Canfield, Howland and now Poland. Their only setback was to St. Ignatius (75-62) on December 29.

(2)Louisville (7-2)
-The Leopards hold the distinction of being the lone team this year to beat St. Ignatius (67-65) on December 23. Louisville has won four in a row.

(3)Copley (8-0)
-Copley has knocked off Alliance, Barberton, and Highland to name a few. Over their last two games, the Indians have averaged 90.5 points.

(4)Lake (6-4)
-The Blue Streaks snapped their four-game losing streak against Green on Tuesday (59-41). During their skid, Lake competed against St. Vincent-St. Mary, Jackson, Canton McKinley and Canfield. Lake owns a December 11 win over Ursuline (71-61).

(5)Ellet (7-2)
-The Orangemen have won three of four. Their two losses were by a combined 6 points (to Kenmore and Euclid).

(6)Howland (6-4)
-The Tigers have compiled four wins in a row including Tuesday’s showdown with Boardman (58-57). With their four losses coming at the hands of Canfield, Poland, Jefferson and Harding – these next two outings (against Champion and Girard) could solidify their standing as the Tigers ready themselves for a seven-game stretch in the All-American Red Division.

(7)Boardman (5-4)
-The Spartans have fallen in two of their last three matchups by a combined four points (to Kenston and Howland). Boardman has posted wins against Lakeside, Streetsboro and Niles this year.

(8)Fitch (4-4)
-Fitch fell to Canfield and Poland by a total of three points at the end of 2015. The Falcons are seeking a major victory to add onto their resume. Plenty of chances are on the horizon as Canfield, Boardman, Harding and Poland are within the next five games.

(9)Roosevelt (2-7)
-The Rough Riders have lost six of their last seven although they took Twinsburg and Revere down to the wire during that stretch.

(10)Akron East (2-9)
-The Dragons snapped their four-game slide on Tuesday when they knocked off Orrville (56-54) on the road.

(11)Youngstown East (0-8)
-The Panthers 0-8 record is a bit deceiving as they’ve been within seven points of their eight losses. Those setbacks were against Howland, Lakeside, Boardman, Fitch and Edgewood.

(12)Akron Springfield (1-7)
-Springfield has fallen in each of their last seven games. The Spartans have averaged just 41.9 points during that stretch.
