Projecting Boys’ Hoops Tourney: Struthers District (1/7)

STRUTHERS, Ohio (WKBN) – We are one month away from the OHSAA’s Selection Sunday for boys’ basketball. Teams are currently vying for seeding in next month’s district tournament. Here’s a look at the Struthers’ District.

Selection Meeting: Sunday, February 7

Division IV – Struthers District
Projected Seeding as of January 6
(1)Lisbon (9-1)
-The Blue Devils have outscored their opposition this year by an average of 26 points. Lisbon’s only blemish was in the Potter Holiday Classic Championship where they dropped a 81-76 overtime thriller to East Liverpool. Lisbon has registered 5 road wins while compiling a resume which has seen wins over Wellsville (by 32 points), Struthers (by 33 points), Lowellville (by 24 points) and Springfield on it.

(2)McDonald (9-1)
-The Blue Devils suffered a 72-68 setback against Girard on Tuesday but have put together a strong resume which includes wins over Springfield, Southern, Lowellville, Mineral Ridge and Niles this season.

(3)Wellsville (9-1)
-The Tigers have won six in a row since suffering their lone loss at the hands of Lisbon. Six of their nine wins this year have been decided by nine points or less. Wellsville’s victories have come against the likes of Lowellville, Springfield, Western Reserve and most notably on Tuesday at East Liverpool (58-54).

(4)Sebring (6-2)
-In the Trojans’ two losses against Mineral Ridge and Mogadore, they’ve fallen by a combined 8 points. Sebring has won four games on the road and have picked off the likes of Columbiana and Western Reserve so far.

(5)Lowellville (6-5)
-The Rockets began the season with a marquee victory over South Range (57-55). Lowellville then played Wellsville tough (66-65 loss) and Springfield (47-42 loss) as well. The Rockets have won their last four contests over teams who have combined for a 2-38 record. Next five are against Sebring, Mineral Ridge, Western Reserve, McDonald and Southern.

(6)Southern (6-4)
-The Indians have won three of their last four, dominating their last two opponents (Beaver Local and East Palestine) in the new year. The Indians opened the campaign with a 18-point win over Western Reserve. Their next three games are against South Range, Wellsville and Lisbon.

(7)Western Reserve (5-6)
-All six of Reserve’s losses have come against teams who currently have a winning record. The Devils posted a 16-point win over Columbiana back on December 12.

(8)Leetonia (4-7)
-The Bears snapped their three-game losing streak against Crestview (71-41) on Tuesday. Leetonia holds a 40-37 win over Lowellville on December 12 this season.

(9)Valley Christian (2-5)
-The Eagles have faced off against the likes of Bristol and Villa Angela this season. Their last win came against Heartland Christian (51-42).

(10)Heritage Christian (1-7)
-The Conquerors defeated Heartland on December 28 (48-45) at home.

(11)Heartland Christian (3-7)
-The Lions have dropped five straight since their 3-2 start.

(12)East Canton (0-9)
-East Canton has played competitively against Ridgewood (61-49), Fairless (50-42), Newcomerstown (57-50) and Malvern (69-59).

(13)Jackson-Milton (0-9)
-The Blue Jays’ schedule doesn’t get any easier as they must hit the road for seven of their next ten games.
