Republic Steel to idle Lorain plant

Republic Steel announced it is temporarily idling its rolling mill operations in Lorain.


LORAIN, Ohio (WKBN) – Republic Steel still has significant operations in parts of Northeast Ohio, despite an announcement on Thursday that the company is laying off workers.

Republic Steel announced it is temporarily idling its rolling mill operations in Lorain. The 200 people working there will be laid off.

Republic has 900 other workers at plants at five other locations including Canton, Massillon and Solon. They will not be affected.
