East Liverpool residents hesitate to use water after leak

Residents are hesitant to use the water in East Liverpool after a chemical leaked into the Ohio River.

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio (WKBN) – Contamination of the Ohio River following a small chemical leak Friday is contained, but East Liverpool residents are still wary of using their water.

Police are receiving several calls from residents wondering if the water is safe, and they say it is.

The department posted to its Facebook page, urging residents to use the water.

Twenty gallons of a chemical used in the production of styrofoam leaked into the river after a truck driver didn’t fasten a valve tight enough.

Calls to the Environmental Protection Agency regarding charges against the truck driver or the company he works for were not immediately returned.
